Email Marketing

This topic is vast and varies for each business.

When to send your email

First you need to know your target audience.

  • Are they browsing from home or work?
  • Are they male or female?
  • Where are they located geographically and what are the customs of this country.

An example would be if you are targeting Mothers in Australia, a good time to send an email is 6am on a Saturday. This is the quiet time before the children waken up when a busy Mother can read some emails in peace.

For a business the best time to email would be mid week before lunch so the inbox is relatively empty and the chances of opening an email are larger.

A great subject line

People lead busy lives and don’t have much time to open all the emails they receive, as a result they are very selective as to which emails receive priority.

A great subject line can help, personalised with the recipeints name and short teaser as to why they would want to open the email.

What do you offer the recipient?

An example of a great subject line would be:

Emma, 10 tips to increase your website traffic by 200%

This is relevant to the recipient (me) and something that would make me curious enough to read the email and see if I am missing out.

Once the email is opened what then?

You have managed to get the email opened, there are a few important factors:

  • You provide a HTML and text version of the email
  • The layout is easy to read and follow
  • You have a clear call to action
  • You include your social media profile links
  • You have a clear unsubscribe policy

Your reporting system will inform you of who opened the email and who clicked through to your website and social media. Use this data to your advantage.
